MARRIAGE CONVERSATIONS | 14 DAY RELATIONSHIP CHALLENGE – DAY 3

MARRIAGE CONVERSATIONS

14 DAY RELATIONSHIP CHALLENGE DAY 3

CHALLENGE: HUG YOUR SPOUSE 3 TIMES TODAY

We give hugs to offer comfort, to show concern, to share excitement, to express a feeling that goes beyond words.  If you follow my Periscope series Marriage Conversations, you know I focus on three core values in marriage, which are COMMUNICATION, CONSISTENCY and PRAYER.  Recently, I talked about the power of communication and that not all communication is verbal.  In fact, we say far more with our mouths shut than we do when we speak.  A hug is a non-verbal way of telling your spouse you love him|her.  When my kids argue and get into fights, I sometimes make them hug-it-out.  I force them to hug each other until they stop crying and most times they end up laughing uncontrollably.  It’s hard to be mad and hug someone at the same time.  Our spouses deal with a lot throughout the day; things we’ll never know.  Our role is to come alongside them, pray over them and encourage them.  Open wide and wrap those arms around your honey at least 3 times today and see the difference it makes.

PRAYER

Dear God, use my arms to comfort your son, my husband.  Use my arms to remind him that he is the apple of your eye and as your Word says in Isiah 54:17 “no weapon formed against him shall prosper.”  God, use my arms to encourage him to cast his cares unto you because you and only you can sustain him.  I thank you, God, and I count it done.  Amen

OBSERVATION

I shared with you that I feel like you’ll get the best results of this challenge if you opt to keep it a secret while you’re doing it.  This is so your spouse doesn’t dismiss your actions as simply items you’re trying to check off your list but will instead receive your actions as genuine attempts to make an impact on your marriage.  Well, here’s the thing, my husband follows me socially, so keeping it a secret didn’t quite works so well, BUT, I have been pleasantly surprised by the fact that he seems to look forward to me performing the task.  For example, today as soon as I hopped out of bed I gave him a long head-to-chest hug (you know the kind where you listed to his heartbeat with your head against his chest).  I then went about getting kids ready, getting fixed up…business as usual.  Later in the day, he texted me saying, “You only hugged me once.”  Of course, I knew he read my blog or saw my Instagram post.  My response was, “So far! lol”.  When he came home, he was met with hug 2 and 3.  You guys, it’s working.  I know it’s only day 3 but I sincerely feel like these little efforts are making a difference.  What about you?

How to join?  That’s up to you!  It’s completely your choice how you participate in this challenge.  Truly, what matters to me is that you are putting these prompts into action prayerfully and intentionally.  I want you to see the fruits of your labor when it’s all said and done.  Here’s how you can follow along: (1) Check back here to find the daily prompt along with my encouragement, prayer and observations from the previous day.  (2) Check out my Instagram where you’ll also see the daily prompts and can engage other participants.  (3) Watch the live Periscope episodes over the course of these 14 days where you’ll find me talking about my observations in addition to tackling a Marriage Conversations Topic.  Finally, (4) you’ll find a video dedicated to this challenge, with all the details and each day spelled out for you.  This is in case you’re catching this on the 15th day and you really want to participate.  The beauty is there’s no such thing as a late start.  Anytime is a great time to start doing these things in your relationships. #MARRIAGECONVERSATIONS

MARRIAGE CONVERSATIONS | 14 DAY RELATIONSHIP CHALLENGE – DAY 2

MARRIAGE CONVERSATIONS

14 DAY RELATIONSHIP CHALLENGE DAY 2

CHALLENGE: HIDE A NOTE – WRITE 5 NOTES OF ENCOURAGEMENT TO YOUR SPOUSE AND HIDE THEM FOR HIM|HER TO FIND.

Some things never get old; like receiving compliments or words of encouragement.  Who doesn’t like to be told they look nice?  Who doesn’t like to be told things will be alright?  I find that sometimes in marriage we fall into comfort levels where we become lax and we’re not as generous with our compliments and encouragement as we once were.  We have periods where it’s easier to extend kindness to strangers than it is our own spouse.  In times like this, if we don’t recognize the signs, we can easily fall into what I call the “roommate trap” (which I talk about in this video, this one and finally this one) where you’re essentially renting a room in a house with someone you married.  This prompt is designed not only to make your spouse feel good, but to also remind you of all the wonderful things you already knew about your spouse, but needed to remember and acknowledge.

PRAYER

Dear God, help me to remember all the reasons that I married my spouse.  Help me to make time to recognize him for all the goodness they add to my life.  God, help me not to allow the chores of the day to cloud my priorities and purpose which is to be a helpmate to my husband, to love him, honor him, obey him and respect him.  Amen.

OBSERVATIONS

I was really happy with how this challenge turned out, never mind the fact that he only found 1 note.  LOL  It meant so much to me to see is heartfelt reaction to finding the note he found.  The note said, “I pray that Julia and Jayde marry men like you!”  Apparently, it was the word of encouragement he needed at that moment.  Mission accomplished in my book ya’ll.

MARRIAGE CONVERSATIONS | 14 Day Relationship Challenge – DAY 1

14 DAY RELATIONSHIP CHALLENGE DAY 1

CHALLENGE: Take an “usie” of you and your spouse.

This will be harder for some than other.  When taking a picture, you are capturing a moment in time.  For most of us, seeing old pictures brings back memories, feelings and emotions; both good and bad.  What will today’s pictures bring to your remembrance days, weeks and months from now?  A fulfilling, strong, healthy marriage?  A marriage ravaged by lies, abuse or unforgiveness?  A relationship at a crossroads; one conversation away from becoming something great or becoming another failed relationship?  How will you remember today?  I chose this prompt because taking there’s something special about inviting someone to take a picture with you.  There’s a certain closeness that comes along with it, especially a selfie|usie.  You’re saying, I want you to be close to me and I want to remember this moment.

PRAYER

Dear God, your word says you know the plans you have for me; plans of good and not evil.  I pray God that you will continue to strengthen our marriage day by day so that years from now we’ll be able to look back on these days with fondness.  I thank you for this opportunity to encourage other married couples to show love to their spouse in their daily actions. Amen

OBSERVATION

Today is Day 1 of the 14 Day Relationship Challenge where we are taking a close look at our marriage relationships and challenging ourselves to do little things that will have lasting impact.  I successfully completed day 1 by taking a picture and posting it to social media.  Day 1 done.  But  not really, because part of the  challenge of day 1 won’t be realized until days from now.  As I took this picture I prayed that every day forward would be better than the day before and in that very prayer is where the challenger resides.  It’s exhausting to make each day great and approach each day with the mindset of making it better than the day before.  I’m up for the challenge, because my husband and my marriage are worth it.

Looking forward to day 2.

At The Helm Conference: The Business Owner’s Toolbox

At the Helm began as a conference in Los Angeles in 2011 by Alaia Williams and her team. After the success of their events in 2011 and 2012, they took ATH on the road in 2013. That year, they had regional events in four cities (Los Angeles, San Diego, San Francisco and Asheville, NC) and held their 3rd annual conference in Hollywood, CA. That year, the At the Helm Podcast was also launched.

In 2014, they held their 4th annual conference in Santa Monica, CA. At the conference, they announced the launch of At the Helm Society. It’s a way to connect with the ATH community throughout the year, while also continuing to deliver practical and actionable business information At the Helm is known for.

My topic

I’ll be talking about the power of building a community, mastermind or tribe.  After all, who better to talk about this right? LOL  I’ll be sharing my story and why creating a core group of people interested and engaged in your niche area is key to blog growth, exposure and monetization opportunities.  I’ll also be sharing how easy it is to set these groups up.

I hope to see you there!

MARRIAGE CONVERSATIONS – A Periscope Series

Marriage Conversations – A Periscope Series

Over the past few years my husband and I have hosted LIFE Group session where we talk to young adults about various issues related to dating, marriage, relationships and life as a believer.

Recently, I jumped onto the Periscope bandwagon and began sharing my thoughts on topics related to marriage during a series called Marriage Conversations. With a recent update Periscope made, users can now save videos and upload them to other permanent platforms like YouTube.  Consequently, I’ve uploading a bunch of my daily Periscopes to YouTube for folks to watch, which you can find here.

What is Periscope?

Right now you might be asking yourself, Peri-what?  Periscope, is a new service from the people at Twitter that lets you watch and broadcast live video from around the world from a mobile device.  When you see people ‘scoping, at first it might look like they’re on Facetime but oh no.  They’re actually live-streaming and people from all over the world can see what’s happening.  Viewers can type comments for the user to read and can also give hearts to show that they’re enjoying what they’re watching.  Periscope accumulates the hearts you get in case you’re someone who likes to know those kinds of things.

What Makes You a Marriage Expert?

When it comes to marriage is there really a such thing as an expert?  Marriages differ so greatly from one to the next, but there are some core values all married couples must live by in order to enjoy a long and loving relationship; primarily a deep love for God.

My husband and I have been married for just under 10 years and we have 4 children.  Together, we have gone through many common and maybe not so common marital issues.  Notice, I said TOGETHER.  It’s important that I point out that we got through our trials because we stayed focused on one goal, being together!  Please believe, we’ve had our moments when things looked dismal, but PRAYER and love have carried us through.

When Are You Live-Streaming on Periscope?

I jump on Periscope daily around 9:30 am and 10 am. Tuesdays are not so predictable due to family duties, but I’m on at some point and if you turn your Periscope notifications on  you’ll get notified when I’m live. In order to use Periscope you need to have a Twitter account, otherwise, you can catch the replays on my YouTube Channel.

Just A Few of My Recent Scopes
