FASHIONISTA DU JOUR: Chichi

About Chichi…

How would you describe your personal style?

My personal style is comfort. I wear things I feel comfortable in, not because they’re in vogue but something that is comfortable yet chic. It also depends on my mood- but mostly I would describe my personal style as casual smart.

What’s something about you that people wouldn’t expect?

I am addicted to Tv series. I have watched so many series I have lost count. Maybe that’s the reason why I have started writing my own movie script. Honestly I think I need an intervention otherwise my eyeballs will soon pop out.lol

Have you ever considered moving to the US?  Why or why not?

Moving, no- I am patriotic, I love my country. Tanzania is currently going through a hard time but I can’t imagine being anywhere else. Having said that, it doesn’t mean I don’t want to visit the US, on the contrary I would love to visit Hollywood some day {fingers crossed}.

What drives your passion as a journalist to do what you do?

As a Journalist, I consider myself as the voice of the voiceless, plus I interact with a lot of fascinating and new people.  That, I guess, is one of the really nice things about the job.

If money were no option, what would you be doing this very moment?

Exploring the world- but I guess you need money to do that* Wink

FASHIONISTA du jour: Shalanda Turner

FASHIONISTA du jour has been on vacation for a little bit because yours truly has been pretty busy with the ol’ 9 to 5.  Excuses aside, I’ve had the great opportunity to get to know several of you a little better through our conversations over email and I’m looking forward to sharing you with the world by featuring you very very soon.  You’ll be seeing this feature more often now and I’m going to be switching up the look of it so stay tuned.  Well, enough of the business, lets get to why you’re really here, and that’s to meet September’s FASHIONISTA du jour.  I’d like you to meet, Shalanda Turner:

WHAT SHE’S WEARING:  top: Express | skirt: H&M | necklace: New York & Co | shoes: Rampage

WHAT SHE’S WEARING: skirt: H&M | handbag: New York & Co| top: Express | shoes: Paris Hilton

Clearly this 27 year old bombshell’s got mile long legs and a gorgeous figure, but beyond her outward beauty, Shalanda’s got brains too!  I loved learning that Shasie {as her friends call her} has a Chemical Engineering degree.  She jokingly calls herself a Engineer by day and a Fashionista by night.  She’s artsy and creative and has been offering styling tips to her family and friends for as long as she can remember.  She also blogs and sews!  Sounds like a girl you want to have on your team.  I asked her a few questions:

1. How would you describe your personal style? My personal style modern frugalista. I like classic and trendy pieces, but I’m not willing to spend an arm and a leg for them. I don’t really wear a lot of vintage.

2. What’s something about you that people wouldn’t expect? My favorite tv shows are Xena Warrior Princess and Smallville

3. If you knew then what you know now….(what would that word of advice be?): Be guarded when heading into love, don’t be naive

4. What drives your passion to do what you do? As far as engineering the possibilty of becoming really successful and being recognized in the industry. For fashion blogging: Just the love of fashion, and the excitement of displaying my outfits to people all around the world

5. If money were no option, what would you be doing this very moment? I’d be living in a beach house somewhere.

FASHIONISTA du jour: Tiffany Stewart

Have you ever met someone online, be it a twitter follower, a blog subscriber, a facebook friend, who you just really click with. My girl, Tiffany, is one of those people.  She’s what the people in the south call, “good folk” {I’m pretty sure I just made that up…they call it something like that}.  Tiffany is so kind in nature and just looking at her you can tell she’s a big ol’ sweetheart in a little ol’ sweetheart’s body.  Friends know her as Tiffany Chanelle.  Although she’s happily single, Tiffany has found love in her twin goddaughters.  There’s nothing this 31 year old high school English teacher from Chi-town can’t do.  I’d like you to meet, Tiffany Stewart…

WHAT SHE’S WEARING; Jacket: Member’s Only | Jeans: Armani Exchange | Shoes: Steve Madden | Purse: Coach

WHAT SHE’S WEARING:  Dress: Arden B | Leggings: F21 | Clutch: stolen from mom | Shoes: Puma sequin flats

I asked Tiffany a few questions and this is what I found out…

What drove your passion become an English teacher?

I became an English teacher because I love to read and love, love, love to write. I have instilled this in some of my students. I adore my students who still keep in contact with me. I know that I have done a great job when I get invited to college graduations.

What’s something about you that people wouldn’t expect?

I am the clumsiest person on the face of the Earth. I just knocked over about 6 styrofoam coolers at Walgreens. I drop stuff everyday in class, my kids are used to it now.

How would you describe your personal style?

I would describe my style as quirky and classic. I love retro Adidas and Members Only jackets, but I could live in a sheath dress for the rest of my life if I had to. And if it sparkles, I want it.

If money were no option, what would you be doing this very moment?

Walking around in Paris, channeling Carrie Bradshaw and wearing the fiercest outfit!!

Now can you see why I adore her so?  She’s just so sweet!  Not to mention she’s clumsy like me.  The stories I could tell…

The World of Tiffany

FASHIONISTA du jour: Tiffany Chanelle

Kristin, our first FASHIONISTA, was overwhelmed by all of the wonderful things you had to say in response to her feature.  You all showed her love on Facebook, Twitter, through email…but who am I kidding, I knew you would.  So, from the bottom of my heart,  I thank you.

Now, let’s meet Tiffany.  Truth be told I haven’t know Tiffany long, but you know how you spark up a conversation with someone and before you know it, you realize that you’re just SO in sync?  Well, that’s Tiffany and the interesting thing is we’re both in different stages of our lives.  I feel like when we finally meet, it’ll almost be like two long lost friends re-uniting rather than r than two people meeting for the first time.  I guess that goes to show, when we take the time to care about someone you end up getting more out of it than you would have ever expected.   I asked Tiffany to share some things about herself and this is what she said…

What She’s Wearing:  Jacket – Member’s Only | Tee – Express | Jeans: Armani Exchange | Shoes: Steve Madden | Purse: Coach

How would you describe your personal style? I would describe my style as quirky and classic. I love retro Adidas and Members Only jackets, but I could live in a sheath dress for the rest of my life if I had to. And if it sparkles, I want it.

If you knew then what you know now….(what would that word of advice be?) Girl, run!!! LOL, no seriously it would be to follow my gut instinct and not stay in situations I know are wrong for me.

What She’s Wearing:  Top worn as dress – Arden B | Leggings – F21 | Clutch – stolen from mom | Shoes {not pictured} – Puma sequin flats

What drives your passion to do what you do?  I became an English teacher because I love to read and love, love, love to write. I have instilled this in some of my students. I’m sure she won’t mind me telling you that she’s single, has no children (although she is a self-proclaimed fairy godmother to 5 year old twins) lives in Chicago…and she’s only 31.  Tiffany is an English teacher by trade but in the classroom she transforms into mom, counselor, social worker, nurse, coach…you name it.  Tiffany is adorable and I’m so glad to have had the chance to introduce you to her.

FASHIONISTA du jour: Tasha Robinson

I’m sure this gorgeous face looks familiar; and with good reason.  She’s Tasha of Imperfect Concepts.  I e-met Tasha while she was marketing her business and thought she had some of the most adorable fashions around.  Not only is her store choc full of designer merchandise, but everything is priced very reasonably for those of us cost-conscious shoppers, like myself.  I mean this girl’s got Gucci, Prada, YSL, pretty much everything.  I’d bet if she doesn’t have the designer vintage item you’re looking for she could find it.  She’s just that good.  Okay, okay I don’t want to tell her story for her.  I’d like you to meet, Tasha Robinson…

Tasha S. Robinson is a military brat who was internationally born but raised state side in Miami. Her family then settled in at Ft. Hood Texas where she attended high school. She is a graduate of Southern University, studied Public Relations & Communications. While in college, Tasha was compelled to put the plan in motion to open her own boutique after forming a friendship with Lorren Rhea owner of Rocks & Knocks. Imperfect Concepts Boutique was founded and opened in July of 2009 as an online vintage venture. Tasha also consults as a stylist for a select group of entertainment insiders.

What She’s Wearing:  custom sequin dress | YSL Tribute black heels

Describe your personal style? I am very boho chic; I adore Rachel Zoe, Nicole Richie, Vanessa Hudgens & Zoe Kravitz style. I channel their looks daily.

What’s something about you that people wouldn’t expect? I have tattoo’s.
Finish this sentence, “If I knew then what I know now…”  Believe in your dreams no matter what others say. When I was younger (18-22) people would tell me my ideas where stupid or whatever and I believed them. I follow my heart and what I believe daily.
What’s the best part about your life?  I give and receive LOVE daily. It is so important to share your love with other people you care about & other individuals too. I am a happier person because I realize how vital love is to life.
What tips do you have for other women in your shoes? Don’t let anyone knock you off your square. Stand tall and walk with your head high. No matter how your day is going smile and be positive.  That will get you through your lowest lows & highest highs, trust me I know.

It was so much fun getting to know a little more about Tasha.  I’m always glad to know there’s more to a girl beyond just a pretty face.  Head on over and see what’s new at Imperfect Concepts.  Here’s how you can find her:

FASHIONISTA du jour: Kristin Cottrell-Henderson

A few posts back I introduced a feature that I wanted to incorporate into my blog which would allow visibility into the lives of women I’ve been in both my blog and non-blog lives.  I wanted you to meet women who have a lot to offer, whether it be experiential wisdom, tips, cooking recipes, a business opportunity, etc and who genuinely have a heart for others.   Our first FASHIONISTA du jour is someone I’ve had the pleasure of knowing since middle school.  Her name is Kristin.  While I always admired Kristin’s natural sense of style, I was also captivated by her fun-loving spirit and incredible sense of humor.  I’d like you to meet, Kristin Cottrell-Henderson, in her own words…

Kristen Kai Cottrell-Henderson is my government name but some affectionately call me; Kristen, Kai, Kris, Babe and MOMMA! My driver’s license says I’m a young 31 year old but if you look closely my birthday; 2/29, opens a window into the little girl that lives within.  I am proud wife to my very bestfriend and mother of an active, loving and silly 15-month-old boy.  I wear many hats but one of my favorites is owner of Lily Kai Consulting and Vintage Boutique in Atlanta, GA.

What She’s Wearing: Victor Costa Vintage Blazer | white tank | Levi Vintage Jeans | Betsy Johnson Chunky Studded Bracelet | C. Loub Peep Toe Pumps | Yves Saint Lauren Muse Handbag

I asked Kristin a few questions about with the only condition being that she share from her heart.  Here’s what she said…

How would you describe your personal style? I don’t have a name for my personal style but I love signature pieces (designer shoes, handbags and apparel) that will stand the test of time.  I also appreciate trends but not enough to be “TRENDY”.  I love incorporating designer brands with vintage and pieces from stores like Target and local boutiques.

What’s something about you that people wouldn’t expect? Lily Kai Vintage Boutique launched as a result of me being laid off. I’ve always wanted a clothing boutique and this was the perfect time for one. I thought that I would start small with an online store and in addition host local trunk shows.  My pieces are affordable priced and as you can see I specialize in dresses.

If you knew then what you know now? I wouldn’t apologize for who I am or for my blessings.  I feel like what’s for me is for me and what’s for another person is for them.  We are all put on this earth for a reason and I hope others encourage, support and uplift my endeavors because I intend to do it for them.

What drives the passion for what you do? I know this might sound corny and clique but I really just love fashion; I love everything about it.  I get excited to help pull someone out of a style rut, hunt for that perfect special event outfit for a client and shop for vintage for the boutique.  I am living my dream on my own terms…what else could I ask for.

What She’s Wearing: Zara top and pants | Vintage Snakeskin handbag | Tory Burch Gold Heels | Chunky Necklace from LA Fashion District

What fashion tips do you have to offer from one mom to another? Make yourself just as important as your family. We as mothers and wives tend to put everyone before ourselves but it is important to make sure that who we are as women and individuals aren’t forgotten. Here are my MOM essentials:

  1. Purchase clothing that works for your current body not for the size you want to be.
  2. Get the most for your money and wardrobe by selecting what I like to call “twofers” an item that can be mixed and matched for multiple looks.
  3. Don’t get stuck in a tracksuit. There are other comfortable things that you can wear
  4. Don’t think sneakers are the answer for comfort
  5. Brows shaped, mascara and lip gloss.

Kristin truly is  a gem.  She’s that girl that brings richness to the lives of those around her.  Here’s how you can learn more about Kristin, how she got started and what makes her so cool:
